Queen Elizabeth has it, as do ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, but the showcase copy for Resting Bitch Face is and remains Kristen Stewart. Among the many stars who suffer from this phenomenon are most women. Kanye West is so far the only man of whom it is obvious that he also suffers. All of them are ridiculed when their normal facial expression is more like that of an annoyed, maybe a bit bored diva. In truth, they can not help it. In an absent-minded state, her face looks like this. But not only stars suffer from it, even normal, unrecognized people can be affected by this syndrome. Jason Rogers and Abbe Macbeth, behavioral researchers at international research and innovation firm Noldus Information Technology, wanted to get to the bottom of the "Resting Bitch Face" phenomenon. They wanted to find out if we just fancy the expression or if it actually exists. They used the Noldus Face Reader, a facial recognition device that specializes in recognizing and distinguishing differentiated expressions from 10,000 images of human faces. 500 points are scanned on the face and analyzed accurately, then the corresponding expression is assigned to the eight basic emotions: happy, angry, sad, frightened, surprised, disgusted, despicable and neutral.

Resting Bitch Face is not an imagination of the human brain!
To create a foundation, Rogers and Macbeth ran blank faces of so-called "normal" people through the system and found that just under 97% was considered neutral. Subsequently, photos and videos of stars like Kanye and Kristen Stewart were analyzed and the emotion "contempt" came in this context more often. They have twice as many emotions in their relaxed, absentminded face. Overall, contempt was just under 6 percent of the facial expression of a person with Resting Bitch Face. The device discovers the emotion of contempt for whether the eyes are slightly slender-shaped, and one side of the lips is slightly raised, but not to a mischievous grin, but rather as if something bad smells. Thus, it is clear: The Resting Bitch Face is not formed in the human brain, because a machine recognizes this facial expression and evaluates it as a contemptuous look.

Not only women are affected …
However, the results were also amazing for many people, because the FaceReader is a software that does not differentiate between male and female. The device recognized "Resting Bitch Face" on both male and female faces alike. Specifically, this means that the idea that RBF is exclusively a "woman thing" is only socially conditioned because, according to science, both genders are affected. So the next time someone asks you not to look so grim anymore and smile instead, you know!
