And if you continue to like your schnitzel and your crunchy bacon-sized bacon, you have our blessing. We are just reporting on a new investigation just presented at the meeting of the International Medical Committee in Washington DC. Therefore, reducing meat consumption is not only good for the planet but also good for your figure. Argument, right? 😉 A vegetarian diet, the result of the study is twice as effective when it comes to losing weight, as a carnal. Vegetarians, according to the researchers, not only lose weight, they also reduce muscle fat faster and have a more efficient metabolism. The doctor and study author Dr. Hana Kahleovб: "This finding is especially important for people suffering from metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes!"
Does vegetarian nutrition make you slim?
For the study, the researchers analyzed 74 people with type 2 diabetes. Part of the subjects received either a purely vegetarian diet – the other a typical anti-diabetes diet, which follows the official recommendations of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). The vegetarian diet was virtually vegan as it consisted of fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, grains and legumes. Animal products were only integrated in the form of low-fat yoghurt and semi-fat milk. To assess weight loss fairly, all participants received exactly 500 calories a day less than they would otherwise need to maintain their weight. After six months, each participant in the vegetarian group had lost an average of 6.2 kilos. The subjects who fed on the diabetes diet, however, had slimmed down on average only 3.2 kilos. Of course, this is a small sample that is not statistically meaningful in this form. But it does suggest that a vegetarian diet could help lose weight faster. Incidentally, the doctors also assessed how the diets affected the fat deposits in the thighs of the participants … (now it gets damn exciting, do not you think?). Dr. Kahleovб: "For the vegetarians, the muscle fat was broken down faster, their entire metabolism had accelerated.Thus, my conclusion: who wants to stay slim and healthy, should abstain from meat as possible …."
