These diets are rated worst!

The season of festive gluttony is behind us, the New Year's resolutions are still fresh. A few osters are to get away, the year 2018 will be lighter and healthier. As always, the requests for "diet" and "weight loss" in the world's largest search engine Google are now increasing dramatically, selling lifestyle magazines proved more copies, if on the cover the promise of a kilo-miracle emblazoned. This is also the time when the annual US News & World Health Report publishes its ranking of the best and worst diets. While there has not been much change at the top for years (the healthiest and most effective dietary changes are called the Dash diet and the Mediterranean diet), two of the most harmful diets have two real surprises. Ironically, the recently hyped Diet Dukan and Keto Diet are now considered harmful.

Keto and Dukan Diet: Why they are so badly valued by medical professionals

Both the dukan and keto diet, which are supposedly preferred by stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Katy Perry, are low-carbohydrate, high-protein diets. The idea behind it: The prioritization of other macronutrients than carbohydrates promotes fat burning and leads to a rapid weight loss.

The Dukan diet

  • In the Dukan diet, emphasis is placed on a lot of protein. The background is that protein supports weight loss because it lasts for a long time. At the same time, it also reduces muscle breakdown, or it can even support the build-up of muscles if you have enough exercise.
  • In terms of timing, the diet is divided into four distinct phases: attack, strengthening, consolidation and preservation. So that no carbohydrates need to be completely eliminated in any phase, the inventor recommends feeding oat bran daily in each section, always with plenty of fluids. In the first phase, there are only 1.5 spoonfuls per day, from span two, the amount increases to two spoons.

Why it is now considered unhealthy: Just this low content of carbohydrates criticize the nutritionists and physicians who write the annual health report. Anyone who subsists in this way, so their conclusion, must expect high levels of fatigue, sometimes dizziness, nausea, bad breath, constipation and dizziness. This is not a sustainable dietary change, but is designed for rapid weight loss. If you revert to old habits, the yo-yo effect is even greater.

The keto diet

  • A ketogenic diet is characterized by an extremely low carbohydrate and very high-fat diet. Due to the lack of carbohydrates, the metabolism changes and gets into the so-called "ketosis". In the liver, fats are then converted into so-called ketone bodies, which are used instead of carbohydrates to generate energy and, for example, maintain the capacity of the brain.
  • During a ketogenic diet, carbohydrate foods such as cereals, legumes, sugar, fruit or ready meals must be avoided. Instead, there is a lot of fish and meat, dairy products, nuts and low-carbohydrate vegetables.

Why it is now considered unhealthy: In the keto diet, the panel expressed concern about the high fat content, which accounts for 70 percent of the daily dose of the diet. She does not teach how to adopt healthy eating habits in the long term. As a quick solution, it was suitable, but in the long run hardly anyone could do without bread, pasta and fruit. Again, yo-yo effect, fatigue, headache and constipation are inevitable.
